Inspiration from Genesis 29

Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east. And he looked, and behold, a well in the field, and, lo, three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. And the stone upon the well's mouth was great.
...
While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep. For she kept them. And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother. And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

So that's how it's done.

Social Graces

I was taught never to whistle at girls because it's rude and because they don't like it.

I was running the other day with two other Marines when we received hoots and whistles from a passing car of girls. I liked it. I didn't ask, but the other guys clearly didn't mind either. So what gives? Is this a one-way street?

Read Psalm 73...

...now put it in the context of a young man trying to find his identity and gain acceptance among his worldly peers.

Pride is their necklace
They scoof and speak with malace
Their tongue struts thought the earth

behold, these are the wicked, always at ease

But when I thought to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, until I went into the sanctuary of God

I was brutish and ignorant;
I was like a beast toward you
Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you
God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever
You put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you. But for me it is good to be near God

Asaph is THE MAN.
